The suppliers you choose will play a major role in the success of your wedding. Beyond talent, what truly makes the difference is reliability, communication and experience. Below are a few recommendations based on the weddings we have hosted over the years.
Should I ask for quotes?
When contacting suppliers for the first time, consider asking for a quotation before mentioning that it is for a wedding. Simply explain that you are organising a private family celebration with approximately the same number of guests. Once you have received the initial quotation, you can then explain that it is, in fact, your wedding.
Unfortunately, some suppliers automatically associate weddings, especially destination weddings, with larger budgets and may adjust their pricing accordingly. While many professionals are perfectly fair, this simple approach helps ensure that the quotation reflects the actual service rather than the occasion itself.
Why is a wedding planner required?
Your wedding day should be spent celebrating, not coordinating suppliers or solving unexpected problems. A wedding planner does far more than create a timeline. They coordinate every supplier, ensure the schedule stays on track, anticipate potential issues, and make countless decisions behind the scenes throughout the day. They are, in many ways, the conductor of your wedding.
Over the years, we have seen weddings without professional coordination suffer from significant delays, service issues, missing suppliers, communication problems and, in some cases, brides and grooms having to resolve problems themselves on what should have been one of the happiest days of their lives. This is precisely why we require every couple getting married at Saint Victor to work with a professional wedding planner. It is, without question, the best investment you can make to ensure you remain fully present and able to enjoy every moment.
How can you be sure of the quality of service providers?
Whenever possible, choose suppliers recommended either by your wedding planner, your venue, or friends whose weddings you have personally attended. Unlike you, these professionals work together regularly. Their reputation depends on consistently delivering an excellent experience. If a supplier disappoints one of our couples, we simply won’t recommend them again. The same applies to experienced wedding planners.
This ongoing relationship creates a strong incentive to maintain high standards of professionalism, communication and service. For couples planning a destination wedding, trusted recommendations are often far more valuable than choosing solely based on price.
How do you choose a wedding cake?
Wherever possible, have your wedding cake made by a specialist pastry chef rather than your caterer. A caterer’s expertise lies in preparing and serving a meal for a large number of guests. A pastry chef, on the other hand, devotes their craft entirely to creating exceptional desserts.
The result is often a more elegant, more personalised cake of significantly higher quality – sometimes even at a lower cost. Your wedding cake is one of the highlights of the evening. It deserves the expertise of a true specialist.
Should you arrange a shuttle service for your guests?
If many of your guests are staying in nearby accommodation, consider arranging a shuttle service. It is one of the simplest ways to improve everyone’s experience. Guests can fully enjoy the evening without worrying about driving or parking, and everyone returns safely at the end of the night.
For destination weddings especially, a shuttle service is often appreciated far more than couples initially expect.
